Welcome to English

English 11 will be reading several novels this year in preparation for taking the English Regents in January 2020.  Novels that we will be reading include Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  We are working closely with literary elements (characterization, denotation/connotation, conflict, metaphor, simile, irony, language use, point of view, setting, structure, symbolism, theme, and tone).  Students write in their journals each week to practice their writing and reflecting skills.

English 11H will be challenging themselves this year with several units, including Hamlet by Shakespeare (we also look at the poem titled My Last Duchess by Robert Browning), TED Talks Unit in which students will create and present their own TED style talk, and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Students will also be taking the English Regents in January 2020.

English 12 students will work on several units thoroughout the year including: Turning Point Essay, This I Believe, and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer.  The senior year is a transition year to the real world, so we focus on real-life examples of life!  Students are using their journals to write/reflect on the topics that we are covering.
